Father’s Day: For Biological & Spiritual Fathers Alike

Father’s Day is a day to honor all of the amazing men who are fathers, whether they are someone’s biological father or not. This is not a day to bash men or to speak just on the negative/dead beat biological fathers. Because there are a lot of outstanding men whether they have children, are a mentor/big brother to someone, or a step dad. I have a very large number of men in my family…A couple brothers, my biological father, tons of young men cousins, and several uncles. One thing that I can say is that I was blessed to understand, see and observe different relationships/aspects of the definition of a father figure. I love my biological father Ricardo aka Ricky, he has inspired me when it comes to my versatile music taste and I consider him a dear friend. I also consider my youngest brother, Ricardo, my spiritual father figure. I am years apart from my oldest brother, Tarey, so we did not really grow up together but he is still a beloved person in my life. My youngest brother Ricardo is moving out of the country and I am thankful that we got to grow up together because he is my mentor/big-brother guidance that I have had many deep/meaningful conversations and experiences with. We may not always see eye-to eye, but I am grateful for him. He does not have any children yet, but I still consider him a ”father figure” in my life. Despite some of the choices that my biological father has made, I am proud to be his daughter as well because he has a good heart and I wouldn’t be here without him. So, I call today Father Figure day because there are people who consider more than one person their father. Think about all of the men you personally know in your life and which ones are father-figures. Many of us may know more than one. Which means all over the world….whether you are a father yourself, have an amazing father or someone you can call a father figure…this day is a day to celebrate the spiritually beautiful men who are fatherly and they are genuinely appreciated.

A Jazz Legend: Mr. Grover Washington Jr.

If you love classic jazz like I do, then Grover Washington Jr. is probably one of your favorites. The first song is Mister Magic and the second classic, featuring Bill Withers, is Just The Two Of Us. These classics are just 2
of the many songs that Mr. Grover Washington Jr. has created. I remember before he passed, my mama took a five year old me with her to see him in concert. I appreciate my parents for helping me appreciate good classic/old-school records because if a song is a masterpiece then it doesn’t matter how old someone is or which era it was created in…good music is timeless.

WANTED: More Faith In Humanity

Sadly, I often hear people say things like “I give up on humanity”, “I don’t like people”, or “I hate people”. First of all, hate is a strong word, and not all people should be placed or viewed in such a negative way.  I have faith in humanity because I understand that there are good people in this world as well. If we try individually to be postive good beings,  then that can inspire others.  Thinking negatively about human kind will not help better our world or humanity because we have already decided to give up on each other.  Of course, as long as there are people…there will be negative beings who turn themselves into “bad” energy.  There will always be good cops & bad cops, good doctors and bad doctors,  and so forth.  Why? Because good and bad people walk this Earth and they have job professions  and some are in certain positions of power/authority. Instead of just deciding that humanity is doomed and wicked, how about we use our postive energy/mindsets to spread good and encourage postive change. I could never say that I hate or dislike people in general because one of my biggest pet peeves is generalizing people in one big box even though we all are individuals.  I appreciate and care about all of the good hearted people in the world and I understand that each individual is responsible for what they turn their souls into. I have faith in humanity because I see beauty in this world and I know there are people who do good deeds, but they may not ever get noticed.  So, I encourage whoever reads this to please don’t give up on all of humanity.  Don’t let the sick or evil deeds that go on in this world make you less positive because somewhere out there, good hearted people are doing/creating postive change. It may not be televised or awarded, but hopefully this will inspire us all to keep the faith.

The Masterpiece Song: Massive Attack’s TearDrop

Many people may recognize this song as the theme song for House. The video to this song is very interesting and people have differentiating views on what the song is about. This song is a classic to me, and I think the lyrics & video are great to analyze. Some people believe this song is referring to abortion, but I do not see that at all when I analyze the song & lyrics. I think the song has a beautiful concept about life & love in general. No matter what people’s perception, I think that this song is amazing & a favorite of mine.
