Positive Thought: ‘The World I Know’ by Collective Soul Analyzed

The thought provoking lyrics and perspective of the 1995 classic ‘The World I Know’ by Collective Soul is a great song/video to analyze. How I perceive this song is that it’s okay to question and feel deeply bothered with the state of our world,  but we should always try to not let this reflection prevent us from encouraging more positivity and good progression within our planet. I love this song and whenever I listen to it, the overall composition is compelling to me. I encourage all to never give up on our world…to never be comfortable or numb to the evil & unfortunate happenings that may be prevalent in our world. One of the many beautiful reasons why hope still lingers on is because this world also includes inhabitants/souls who are conscientious, good-hearted and genuinely care to implement/spread positive change. Therefor, let’s never feel as though this world is mainly full of only gloom and despair…because it is not. We all are each equally important & vital in implementing positive change, and there are people who still sincerely care for the pain/suffering others experience.  If we can’t seem to find many, then let’s be one of the light-filled souls we seek and desire. I also love how this video encourages people to never give up on life and that there is always inspiration/positivity we can grow from and contribute to.

Has our conscience shown?
Has the sweet breeze blown?
Has all the kindness gone?
Hope still lingers on
I drink myself of newfound pity
Sitting alone in New York City
And I don’t know why

Are we listening
Hymns of offering?
Have we eyes to see
That love is gathering?
All the words that I’ve been reading
Have now started the act of bleeding
Into one, into one

So I walk up on high
And I step to the edge
To see my world below
And I laugh at myself
While the tears roll down
‘Cause it’s the world I know
Oh it’s the world I know

I drink myself of newfound pity
Sitting alone in New York City
And I don’t know why, don’t know why

So I walk up on high
And I step to the edge
To see my world below
And I laugh at myself
While the tears roll down
‘Cause it’s the world I know
Oh it’s the world I know

So I walk up on high
And I step to the edge
To see my world below

And I laugh at myself
While the tears roll down
‘Cause it’s the world I know
Oh it’s the world I know

Niccolo Machiavelli’s The Prince Treatise : A Philosophy That Is Still Relevant Today

Machiavellianism, introduced in the Niccolo Machiavelli book The Prince, is a term that does not just apply to the Dark Triad subject in applied psychology. Machiavelli’s philosophies in The Prince included the belief that it is okay to use immoral/foul means such as manipulation & showing a disregard for morality in relation to personal gain and self interest. Some people argue that Machiavelli’s acceptance of immoral actions was due to the fact that he lived during a time in Rome when political conflicts and success through criminal actions were common among it’s leaders. However, this time period is not the only era where immoral actions have been common in society. As long as societies have existed, baleful actions have been used throughout history for different reasons…not just among princes vying for power. Unfortunately, it is accepted and a normal/common practice for societies to manipulate and commit evil doings toward others for their own personal gain/self interest in our world. Many people have developed a “that’s just the way it is” perspective on this detrimental behavior because it has been universally prevalent throughout our timeline so far. Therefore, Machiavelli’s philosophies are not just historic political science lessons that reflect the world he knew…but it also can be used to compare what is now, the present. It has gotten to the point where we question & categorize just what is immoral and moral depending on a society/culture’s accepted practices. I may be speaking from a bias point of view because I believe in not perfection, but at least trying our best to be morally upright and emphasizing virtue & genuine goodness. However, no matter what different ethical/moral philosophies exist, Machiavelli’s The Prince should have been a reference for what to avoid, but it now seems as if it is a repeated pattern that does not just apply to old Rome’s royal hierarchies or a personality test. Nevertheless, since the future is not yet written and the present is still unfolding, there is no universal rule that implies history has to keep repeating itself. Yet, even though we are one humanity, we are also individuals who do not share the same mentalities and belief system when it comes to virtue and morality. ..perhaps that is why treatises like The Prince and Machiavellianism seems to have been a relevant philosophy for a very long time.

Don’t Let Negative Energy From Others Change You

We’ve all encountered mean spirited people and those who try to belittle others in some way. However, it is a sign of strength to still be kind and good hearted without letting others liter their negativity inside of us. Many people have become cold hearted and love to claim they have no feelings because of the negativity they have encountered. Well, despite them believing this is a sign of strength in this world…it is not. What is really a sign of strength is when others can throw their negativity your way, but you still triumph because your spirit is full of light. That is truly beautiful and please don’t let anyone take that away from you. Despite whoever is rude, hateful, or ugly towards you…we all have a choice. We can either let these negative people be motivation for us to remain full of light and beauty, or we can let them inspire ugliness within ourselves. The first choice is the best because staying pure feels amazing and being an ugly hearted person means to pollute our spirits. We were all born with beautiful golden hearts, and unfortunately many do not leave this world with the same kind of heart. So, despite whoever  tries to bring you down or make you feel small, please don’t let this break your energy. People need positive energy and spirits that are full of light. It is truly inspirational and has an everlasting mark. This world needs that kind of beauty and if that is you, then what a blessing you are! Thank you.

Pesticides Killing Bees: Why All Mankind Should Care

Albert Einstein once said, “If the Bee disappears from the surface of the Earth, man would have no more than four years to live.” If we take a look at all of the uses we rely on bee colonies for, then this statement could be true. Monsanto is a pesticide that is killing off bees, and these little insects are responsible for so much more than some people care to ponder on. For one, bees are responsible for pollinating 70 of the top 100 crop species, and these foods feed 90 percent of mankind. Without bees, most of the foods we eat would eventually disappear. Humans cannot replace or make up for the work that bees do, which also keeps other lifestock alive as well. If bees continue to be killed off by deadly pesticides, then so will most of the fruit, veggies, grains, and other nutrition we need to live. We tend to take Bees for granted, not realizing that these little tireless workers are blessings that are vital to our lives. The solution is actually simple: ban all deadly pesticides. If pesticides like Monsanto does this to bees, just imagine what they are doing to us. Some may even argue that all pesticides should be banned from our plants, including the so called “harmless” ones. All in all, hopefully it doesn’t take Bees to go extinct for people to finally understand just how valuable they are to mankind.

J. Edgar Hoover Deemed Them The Greatest Threat: Vintage Footage of Black Panther Party’s Youth Learning Centers *Edited*

J. Edgar Hoover once called the Black Panther Party for Self Defense ”the greatest threat to the internal security of this country”. Um,okay. At first I was looking at this quote from just one angle, but if you think about it they stood for a lot of things that many Americans with a mindset like Hoover did not want. So, they were a threat but definitely not a negative/bad one. One definition of ”internal security” means upholding the national law and defending against internal security threats. Yet when I analyze Hoover’s quote, what he really meant was ”keeping the order of things the same way”  and not acting, disturbing, or speaking out against unfair mistreatment/ racism in our society. The Black Panther Party were not about being racist or spreading a hateful message, but they believed in being revolutionary/rebellious concerning the mistreatment/societal issues in our country. In Hoover’s mind this was a great threat to our country’s internal security. Of course, just like all other organizations there were some members who were not really for the party’s cause, however the Black Panther Party were doing great things in the community like helping children learn, get healthy breakfasts, and basically following a belief that is totally fine with me and makes a lot of sense: Self Defense. The problem is, since they were black, armed, and speaking out against the horrible things happening on a mass mainstream level to African Americans and other minority groups….it was a problem. They were a younger generation who did not want to necessarily follow Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s method ,had revolutionary mindsets, and this was threatening to many. Unfortunately and sadly, COINTELPRO  and other illegal projects caused total destruction to the Black Panther Party, which included assassinating people like Fred Hampton, harassment, and etc.  This video is a great example of how The Black Panther Party For Self Defense had learning centers and positive resources in inner city communities. But nevertheless, Hoover said this was the greatest threat to the internal security of our country. I wonder why.

Feminism 101: I Won’t Slut Shame You, So Don’t Virgin Shame Me.

There is nothing wrong with a female  who is against slut shaming. I don’t believe in slut shaming,  but not every woman has the same mentality when it comes to body count and sex.  We are all individuals who have different mindsets, and just because a woman wants to keep her body count as low as possible and does  not want to have casual sex without being in a relationship does not mean she is conforming to society or whatever. It just means she is doing what she thinks is best for her. It is a form of hypocrisy for someone to get angry at slut shaming,  but will turn around and virgin -shame or ridicule another woman for not being as “free” as they want them to be. People find freedom in different things,  and being modest, Abstinent, or “lady like” might give someone the same freedom and happiness that a woman with a different mindset has. The whole concept of women empowerment is supposed to be about uplifting other women with positivity and helping those in disadvantaged situations (education, health issues) & less about freeing the nipple, bashing men in general or bashing those of us who still believe in being classy/ a lady. No matter what “type” of woman you are, we all should uplift each other and encourage equality among every one on this Earth no matter what our personal beliefs are.

Faith: The Power of A Question

I believe that in life,  it’s good to question your beliefs and why you believe in them for stronger faith. To want to learn and see more….and not just the surface.  I mean, trying to find the answers to questions that some may not ever seek to find out.  For an example,  some people go there whole life believing something just because they were taught to, but never questioning why. Some people believe there is a God, but that’s it. Some people believe in having faith in a higher power, but that’s it. Yet, we have to ask ourselves….just how far does our faith go? God is not just someone I call upon or pray to when I am going through tough obstacles or when something happens in my favor.  I don’t use my faith sometimes,  because I need spiritual guidance ALL the time. So I am attached to my faith and depend on it while also using my free will to make my own decisions.   Because as a human who is far from perfect, I am constantly at war with my own heart and mind….and I am determined to remain good hearted and seek as much knowledge,  wisdom,  and enlightenment as possible. I don’t want to leave this world, which I am temporarily in, and the only thing that  I have gained is the physical. What can I gain here that I can take with me after this? Who says we can’t get answers now? What if the tools and resources that we need to gain eternal truths are already here on Earth with us? I believe they are and it is up to us to decide. If we ask questions, set ourselves on a quest/journey for truths, then just imagine what we will find. I am talking about things far more valuable than the typical material pleasures.  Of course, some things we will never know until it is time for us to transition into another chapter. However to me, my faith is my spinning wheel and not just my spare tire.

Hey You, Don’t You Dare Give Up

There are times in life when we may  feel like giving up on ourselves or just simply not caring any longer. Yet, we must remain positive and remember that we have a purpose and to never let negativity consume our thoughts.  There are people who, believe it or not,  are constantly rooting for you and want to see you happy and at peace. You may not know them personally,  but let these people (positive energy) motivate you to love yourself, take care of your soul and nurture it with postive energy.  You are here on this Earth, and you can inspire so many people. It is not impossible to be fully at peace with your self, be happy, and make a difference.  All you have to do is believe this and let this be your motivation. Let this inspire you and uplift your spirit. Let positivity and the people that spread it inspire you to keep going.  Keep going in the spirit and the flesh, and don’t you dare neglect yourself.  The final results are not worth it.

WANTED: More Faith In Humanity

image

Sadly, I often hear people say things like “I give up on humanity”, “I don’t like people”, or “I hate people”. First of all, hate is a strong word, and not all people should be placed or viewed in such a negative way.  I have faith in humanity because I understand that there are good people in this world as well. If we try individually to be postive good beings,  then that can inspire others.  Thinking negatively about human kind will not help better our world or humanity because we have already decided to give up on each other.  Of course, as long as there are people…there will be negative beings who turn themselves into “bad” energy.  There will always be good cops & bad cops, good doctors and bad doctors,  and so forth.  Why? Because good and bad people walk this Earth and they have job professions  and some are in certain positions of power/authority. Instead of just deciding that humanity is doomed and wicked, how about we use our postive energy/mindsets to spread good and encourage postive change. I could never say that I hate or dislike people in general because one of my biggest pet peeves is generalizing people in one big box even though we all are individuals.  I appreciate and care about all of the good hearted people in the world and I understand that each individual is responsible for what they turn their souls into. I have faith in humanity because I see beauty in this world and I know there are people who do good deeds, but they may not ever get noticed.  So, I encourage whoever reads this to please don’t give up on all of humanity.  Don’t let the sick or evil deeds that go on in this world make you less positive because somewhere out there, good hearted people are doing/creating postive change. It may not be televised or awarded, but hopefully this will inspire us all to keep the faith.
